i think the shangri-las (and later, the new york dolls) said it best with, “when i say i’m in love, you best believe i’m in love, L-U-V”.
but seriously, today i sat down and instead of writing my paper that’s due tomorrow, i watched this and finished spinning a single out of of half of gail’s roving. in my defense, i have been sick for the past week and today it decided to manifest itself in the form of a really terrible, distracting sinus headache that made it impossible to form my own thoughts.
after watching that video about three times, i was ready to try it. and i had finished spinning the single, so my wheel was free. i pulled out some old stash yarn (regia 6-ply tweed, for those of you keeping track at home) leftover from a pair of socks i made a year and a half ago. i ran through a little of it as a test, just to make sure i had the motion down, and came up with this:
after i had committed the weirdness of navajo plying to (at least temporary) muscle memory, i took a deep breath, and jumped in.
i was so distracted the whole time i was plying this that my yarn kept slipping out of the hooks on my flyer and building up in weird places on my bobbin. but whatever, all’s well that ends well, right?
